Back in 1983, Patricia Clarke, then just 24 years old, was expecting her second child. Having already given birth to a notably large baby, she assumed her next newborn would be big as well. Large babies ran in her family, after all. What no one could have predicted, however, was that her son would go on to break hospital records—and capture national attention.
When Kevin Robert Clark was born, doctors and nurses were stunned. The newborn weighed an astonishing 16 pounds, making him the largest baby ever delivered at Community Memorial Hospital and very likely the biggest newborn in the entire New Jersey region at the time.
Kevin’s size presented immediate challenges. He didn’t fit into standard newborn clothes, nor could he be placed in a regular baby crib. Despite the logistical hurdles, what mattered most to Patricia and her family was that Kevin was perfectly healthy—a blessing they were deeply grateful for.
His extraordinary birth quickly made headlines across the country. The story of the 16-pound baby was featured on major national platforms, including a segment on “Saturday Night Live” and mentions on “Good Morning America.” Kevin had become famous before he could even open his eyes.
As expected, Kevin didn’t stay small for long.
By the time he reached 12 years old, he already stood at 5 feet 7 inches tall, according to The New York Post. His growth continued at a remarkable pace, and by junior high school, Kevin had shot up to 6 feet 5 inches—towering over his classmates and teachers alike.
And he wasn’t finished growing.
“There isn’t a day that goes by when someone doesn’t ask me how tall I am,” Kevin once told the Post.
“I like to joke that I’m 5-foot-21,” he added. “And when people ask if I play basketball, I ask them if they play miniature golf.”
Now 40 years old, Kevin stands an impressive 6 feet 9 inches tall and wears a size 17 shoe. A former member of the military, he lives a full life alongside his wife—who is significantly shorter than him—and their beloved Great Dane, a fitting companion for someone of his stature.
While being exceptionally tall comes with its challenges—finding clothes, fitting into cars, or answering constant questions—it also comes with unique advantages and plenty of humor. Kevin has learned to embrace his height and handle the curiosity with grace.
Though he’s no stranger to attention, it’s clear Kevin has grown into himself just fine—standing tall in every sense of the word.
